Chicago cop responding to ShotSpotter alert opened fire on boy lighting fireworks, oversight agency says. Boy was unharmed.

That device must cause a lot false gunshot alerts to law enforcement during the Fourth and New Year's.

I thought I read they were no longer going to be using these devices. I wonder if this is one of the reasons why.

Funny you mentioned Shot Spotter. Back when I created the artwork for my Displayfireworks1 cake “Backyard Battlefield” I added a Shot Spotter into the artwork. While fireworks trigger false notifications of gun fire, some cities were also using them to identify and target fireworks users in areas that do not permit fireworks. Strangely enough while cities like Chicago are dropping Shot Spotter, here where I live Pittsburgh Pa is expanding Shot Spotters.
On a side note if you listen to what Chicago sound like at night anyway. You can understand why they are dropping it. If you listen, you can see why it is worthless in this environment.
