Thats how it started for me. In the end it was working for a company that paid off. Don't lose the faith it will work out. Pyro's help pyro's, we might not be marines but we take care of our own.

I checked my bank statement and the ATF took out the $100 for my 54. Is this a good sign or do they do this to everyone? The ATF office was closed by the time I saw it was taken out so I didn't get a chance to call.

Normally if the $100 is taken out the app is being processed and background check ongoing

I hope your correct, they take the $100 no matter what happens correct?

No. If you're not approved for some strange reason after the interview (aka they find that you are truly incompetent) then your monies are refunded. From what I understand once the interview is scheduled the cat is pretty much in the bag. They're just showing up to run the ins and outs by you.

thats cool, I would have thought that they would have kept the money for the time they have spent on my app.

What kind of questions do they ask at the interview.
I'm just curious why a personal interview.
Can you give any insight as to what to expect?

They basically run thru a checklist of the rules and make sure you understand them. My agent was a nice guy to work with no attitude but still the man in charge. You follow the rules they are your friend, rule number 1. They catch wind of any problems your done for, let's call this rule number 2.

The thoughts of an interview with an ATF agent may sound intimidating, but, in reality, it is just a "business meeting". Nothing to be concerned about if you are prepared. You are applying for a license to use & possess explosive materials that can have catastrophic and fatal results if handled improperly. There are rules and regulations that must be followed & the field agent is there to meet you & be sure you have a solid & clear understanding of what the rules are and also to answer any questions you may have. The bottom line is--they are not out to "get you" --they are just doing their job. So, be as prepared as possible. Dave's video gives a lot of insight into what to expect from the agent and your interview process. Good luck with your application...and welcome to the Forum!

I called the ATF today and they have not processed my application yet. I think I sent it in March 5th, she told me that its should be done very soon and to call back on Friday because they seem to get most of the applications on Thursday.

You can keep calling and calling but it doesn't speed things up any faster. It all comes in strides. They'll process it, call you for an interview, meet with you, mail your blue envelopes.

I'm not sure about that she asked me if I was in need of this permit and I told her that I would like to go to Kellners for there open shoot in April and she said that would be pushing it, but she says that she knows several of the inspectors that cover the area that I live in and she said once it goes through she would contact one of them to get it push through fast so I would have it in time for the shoot. I don't know if she was giving me a line of crap or not. Time will tell.

Concerning the "push"....once I had my interview, my agent gave me a temp permit number that I could use right away while waiting for the physical paper to show up.

All that I do know is that I'm not sure when or what will happen with this. I got a clean slate, of age, and I'm not a nimrod..........so I think...lol

Never rock the boat when it comes to things like this. They will make you wait just to prove the point that the're the boss and they are.

Find a display company relatively close by. Contact them. Ask for contingency if you purchase their product.

I agree with the search, and I found a lot of information. As a matter of fact, I can search on any fireworks subject in this forum and get a lot of great information. But, the reason I ask again is you never know when something has changed.
I was just checking. Also, I ended up ordering Dave's video on how to obtain my BATFE Type 54, (Or is it 34 now?)
So I'm sure that will cover anything else I want to know. Thanks for your time.

Well I just had my interview today for my Type 54. It's just as everyone had said. But I couldn't help getting worked up about it. Checklist... here's some info... sign these... you'll get your license in about 4 to 6 weeks.
well I don't know if I'll get my license in time for the 4th this year but I'll remain hopeful and perhaps at the last minute I can run down and have pick of the leftovers :)

I got my license 10 days after my interview. You should have it in time....

It has been 3 weeks for me and still waiting. My ATF inspector said it would be around 4 weeks due to the time of year. Every day I am waiting for those blue envelopes to be in the mailbox.

@KHeffner, Did you ever get your license in the mail?
The reason I'm asking is I had my interview on 5-23. I just got my 3 blue envelopes in the mail yesterday on 6-8. Like crackerbomb said, it only took about 10 days.
I officially have my type 54 now :) Hurray!!!
I hope you get yours soon!

Congratulations on getting your ATF 1.3 license. You are now free to purchase any type of fireworks you wish. Thank you for the positive feedback.
