So who all made the upgrade to 6.0 and is playing with DMX scripting? If so what are your thoughts, been thinking about doing the upgrade and trying it but not sure who difficult it is to use via show creator.

Finale 3D makes it very easy whereas cobra show creator takes a little more planning and thinking

here are some good how to videos

For the $300 price difference I'm content to plan and think a little more.

one thing to think about.... there is no reason DMX cannot be done via spreadsheet application - especially if you are just firing off some simple 1 or 2 channel devices (like flame machines).

The add of DMX is great for Cobra. I've been using DMX with a Cobra trigger for several years before it was included in 6.0. I think the Cobra version is great for on off devices like flames or cans. However if you ever plan on getting a moving head light (I have 4 for my shows) there is no reasonable way you can expect to program one of these devices with the Cobra version.

These devices can have 20+ DMX channels to control and to move a light in a circle for example, each position in the arch is a line of DMX code. There are THOUSANDS of lines of DMX programming required to do for example a chase sequence with a group of moving head lights. It is beyond the capability of the Cobra DMX or Finale for that matter, any program that requires you to input the code one line at a time.

Do do these complex movements you honestly need dedicated DMX programming software that includes the building capability of movement functions like MyDMX or ADJ Compu. You can see an example of a light chase that I am referencing in one of my old videos here at the 12:50 mark https://youtu.be/XuiDZF_XS-U?t=771

There is no way Cobra can do that unless you plan on adding thousands of lines of code. Just sharing the limitations of any of the DMX solutins built into firing software.

That being said it is a great addition to have it incorporated because my set up is incredibly complicated and expensive lol.
