After seeing videos of these absolutely massive rolls of firecrackers that seem to be everywhere in firework videos in china, it made me wonder. Is there anything bigger than a 16k in the US? I can't seem to find any. Is there a reason or some kind of regulation that prevents this?

I just googled for less than a minute, and found a dealer in the states that sells a roll of 48k. Mobster Brand.

Another minute spent on Youtube yielded a pretty popular pyro guy lighting off a roll of 100k

I bought 2 of these a couple years ago. I still have one left. After the mess the first one left behind I've been hesitant to light the second wheel of them lol.

Did they sell it as one roll of them? Surely not. It would take a fork lift to move it!

The problem with some of those large rolls of firecrackers , they burn too slow if you just lay them on the ground rolled out.. If you can get them hanging from a pole or tree they seem to burn faster. In the past I also left the roll as is and suspended it between two stakes in the air and it burns faster. Those larger than 16K ones are probably mis-marked 1.3 firecracker rolls. If you look at some of my PGI convention videos elsewhere on this website, you can see those large rolls they were using for the Super String.. Those were imported as 1.3 items.
The more I think about it I really not sure how firecrackers are regulated other than 50 mg max per firecracker. When they are in a roll sold as single unit what is the max? Are they subject to the same 500 Gram rule? Seems like they would be.

That rule doesnt seem to be used. 50mg x16,000 is 800 grams

Dave and Ralphie, tau is not a measurement. It is an acronym for turns and under hooks. This is how much labor goes into braiding a roll. As far as count,it is aprox one fourth of the tau number, depending on maker. I double checked one that the box top reads 10000 tau 2492 pieces. There are currently 16000 to 48000 1.4g rolls for sale to consumers. Unlike tau rolls these rolls are 50 mg crackers and that is a piece count. They are usually packed 1/1. The 16000 looks like an extra large pizza ,the 48000 is around 4 ft tall.

I found this conversion:

Examples are approximate Tau:

5000 Tau = 1,388 firecrackers
10,000 Tau = 2,462 "
20,000 Tau = 4,526 "
100,000 Tau = 16,298 "
