I received my renewal ATF license in the mail today. It is will ahead of expiration date. I thought I would add a few pictures to serve as visual to those that are newly license.
.
First off Do Not sign the original. I never really fully understood the ATF rationale for this, last I heard this is what the ATF wants. I make multiple hard copies of the license and place it in all of the vehicles in my family. If you experience an issues chances are it will be on the road. You can at least prove you are properly license to possess whatever is in the vehicle. If you read the fine print on the wallet card, its not valid for sale or disposition of explosives. Carry the full license. Find the fax number of 1.3 distributors you are considering this season , fax a hard copy to them if you can. This way they can get you into the system ready for you to order. Scan a copy to you computer, this way you can also email it to distributors. Put the original license in your file cabinet for safe keeping.
If anyone else has recommendations for newly licensed ATF holders please comment.

I keep a copy of my ATF and other paperwork in a thin binder, along with a copy of the rules about unplacarded transport in my state.

When making hard copies to physically send or give to a 1.3 supplier, sign the form with blue ink. One of my suppliers suggested that to me. I guess it is to show that it is an "original signed copy" and not a "copy of a copy"...but I don't think it is a game changer either way. The form I had was signed in black ink and it was acceptable. When you are scanning a copy to esnd it will not show the color anyway.

If you have any other permits, licenses, insurance paperwork, safety guides for the product you are with, etc. it's not a bad idea to organize copies of them neatly in a folder or book.

I figure that anyone who will hassle you on the road or when you're working with the materials is going to leaf through that, realize you probably know what you're doing and go away.

What you don't want is for them to call the fire marshal or the commercial hazmat specialist who may have a thousand pages of obscure local codes and such that could potentially get you a citation.

Only thing I’ll add is to keep the name and number of the ATF inspector who interviewed you handy. Being able to provide a direct contact at the ATF could help establish your credibility.

Slightly off topic, but do you generally get any type of proof that the you have had your renewal inspection? I just had mine but my license doesn’t renew for almost a year. It just occurred to me that I really have nothing to show that the interview step was completed.
