This is from the kfiam650.com radio station website. I suppose most of these "problems" are caused by imitation pyros who don't know how to do a show properly.

IOWA WOMAN KILLED BY EXPLOSION AT GENDER-REVEAL PARTY

A 56-year-old Iowa woman was struck and killed by debris from an explosion at a gender-reveal party on Saturday.

Officials with the Marion County Sheriff's Office said in a statement that they received a 911 call on Saturday afternoon around 4 p.m. reporting that a woman, 56, had been seriously injured in an explosion in the rural area of Knoxville, Iowa. The woman, who has not been identified by officials, was pronounced dead at the scene, a press release about the incident stated.

Deputies determined that the woman was participating in a gender-reveal announcement that included an explosion. When it went off, a flying piece of debris struck the woman. Officials with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives are involved with the investigation.

No other information has been released at this time.

Saturday's incident is the latest in a series of 'gender-reveals gone wrong' that include when a man in Tuscon, Arizona shot at a target set up on some dry grassland that was supposed to release a pink or blue cloud of smoke to indicate the baby's gender. However, after the gunshot, the target exploded, sparking a fire that would eventually char about 47,000 acres in Southern Arizona.

Sad indeed, but all too predictable. :(

And here I thought this was going to be about fireworks that were the wrong color when fired. Sad but that's what can happen when you start packing gunpowder in metal pipe.

Making a pipe bomb for a gender reveal (or anything else!) is never a good idea.
