Hmm...If the fine is only R200, I'd say run your own show. That's like $15 US Dollars, right?

In theory... the trouble is, there is a strong element of cultural intolerance in south africa with respect to fireworks. Theres a south asian population group here. About 1% of the population. Theyre probablt the biggest consumers of fireworks, which are used in certain festivals. The complaints and community outrage are only at this time of year. During newyears day, the fireworks sales are 6 times higher but this arouses no concern in the public.
Although theres only a fine, if your community does not want fireworks, they will take active measures to stop you.
I fall into that 1% population. I live in a high end residential suburb (for work). They call the police with a noise complaint if someones taking a midnight stroll and talking on a cellphone. When i want to use fireworks, i have to travel about 700km to my home township where they dont mind too much.
We just had one of these festivals now. There are only a few places in the country where it can be celebrated. However, events such as music concerts (that use pyro) guy fawks (absolutely no relevance to SA) , oktoberfest, and new years ( which has the entire country celebrating)... theres a casino that holds a show annually. They have a bird park in the casino, but theres no outrage.
