I hope I?m not beating a dead horse here. I know the difference, and that most people that don?t want to mix sizes will use the DR11 exclusively. I know there are some nuances in the impact of the height, etc. of using a larger tube. Having seen Dave?s video demonstrating that a canister shell can safely be fired from a DR9 is there any good reason to not use all DR9 tubes instead of all DR11? Are there other consumer shells or particular brands that might be problematic firing through a DR9? I plan on using electronic igniters, thereby reducing the effective diameter of the shell by removing the factory fuse as the elecltronic fuses are thinner. Pros, Cons, Thoughts, Comments?

I could be wrong but I thought that dr9 was more for 1.5” shells. 1.75 cans will work in it but might have a better chance of flower potting?

From the FAQ on Pyroboom's website:

What is the difference between a DR11 tube and a DR9 tube and which one is better?
DR11 has an ID of 1.91" and DR9 is 1.81 inches. DR11 is the most common tube, and it's our best seller. If you don't know, buy DR11. Why DR9 then? DR9 is used for smaller shells. Yes, many fireworks shells fit into a DR9 mortar, but there no guarantee that your shells (mine shells too) will fit into the mortar. Again, when in doubt, go with DR11.

Glad to help! I buy all my mortar tubes from them. Going to pick up another 100 this year too. Waiting for their free shipping special. I highly recommend them.

DR9 has a smaller inner diameter which is better for standard 1.75" ball shells because there is less of a gap around the shell than in a DR11 tube. I have never bothered with DR9 for canisters since I rarely e-fire shells and its a very tight fit sometimes to tight with the fuse. If you do use them you will probably see a height difference from the DR9(higher) since less of the lift gas will escape around the shell. I use 15" and longer(24") tubes (all DR11)with everything to get the fastest muzzle velocity possible which equates to a higher break (all else being equal). Since the time fuse(to the burst charge) of consumer shells is pretty short this can vary quite a bit but overall the difference is undeniable. The downside of longer tubes is you have to extend the fuses but that is a mute point if your poking them anyway for e-fire.

I only use dr-11 as well.. but from my understanding some of the 1.75? shells will be to tight to fit into a dr9... and yes, highly recommend pyroboom too!!

So then what do you use for a 1.5” ball shell? Is dr9 too big?

Measure the actual outer diameter and get tubes the correct size for that diameter. DR9 is 1.81" id nominal and DR11 is 1.91" id nominal

Sadly I won't be offering free shipping on DR11 or DR9 tubes anytime soon. There will be free shipping on racks in January of 2020.

I'll mull this over and see what I can deal I work up for Black Friday.

Thanks for the support and business everyone!
