Curious about people's preferred method of granulating black powder... I've screened it, pressed and cracked it, and even done a few batches of nc lacquer bound that was screen sliced. My favorite so far for best results, has been pressing it in star plates, allowing it to mostly dry... Then forcing it through various sizing screens. Gives me nice firm granules that don't crumble or turn to dust easily. Burns nice and hot, not goex good but very close.

Anyone have a preference on granulating or corning black powder?

Last batch not sized yet, just initial cracking to help speed up the sizing step.

I have always used 1/4" hardware cloth screens to grate mine. Quick & easy & reliable method. Dry & size accordingly. I keep some 4FA aside for small inserts and re-mill anything finer to coat rice hulls and make slurry.

I've used 1/4" screen to grate it. .. Didn't care for the way the granules formed, kinda irregular and fluffy. I don't remill my finer mesh stuff, usually just keep it for slurry, rice hulls, or meal based stars.
