I am unsure if this post is allowed or not. My town's newspaper has had an open poll for several months now. It asks if fireworks should be allowed in "city limits" or not. Currently, fireworks are allowed for three days surrounding the 4th of July and for New Year's Eve, but all other days of the year are off limits. There are over 300 votes so far, with the "No" votes leading by a small margin. I figure if I can get this poll some notoriety on this forum, by voting "Yes", it will send a message to the NIMBYs (Not In My Back Yard) and out-of-staters who hate fireworks. This isn't a law-changer by any means, just a poll. But it will send a message none-the-less.

One doesn't need to be a subscriber to vote and all you need to do is scroll down near the bottom of the home page to see the poll on the right side.

Again, I dont know if this is allowed on the forum, and I apologize in advance and agree if the post needs to be removed.

Thanks in advance for checking it out if you do!

Lol! This is awesome, guys - many thanks. I figure it's an open poll and if the news site admin had any problems with outside votes, they would have restricted them by now. Nothing wrong with voting for freedom of expression ;)

LOL!!

Yup! One can vote more than once and I have a suspicion that's how there were so many "No" votes garnered over the last 3-4 months. I say smoke if ya got'em! I have heard some people will take polls from their local newspapers to City Hall meetings to prove a point, which can often be a bad one so they can persuade officials to add restrictions or bans on virtually anything they don't like. It's a real shame, so I figure why not put this poll to good use while it's still open.

I don't see the poll any longer.

However, searching older polls by the page, I found this one asking about curfews for fireworks.

Yep it looks like we either crashed the poll or someone at the paper saw all the votes, may have been opposed to fireworks use and decided to take it down. The other polls currently listed are of a rather peculiar, overly-superficial nature. This was a rather eye-opening experience and I'm all the more convinced that manipulation of a negative nature is pervasive if not more-so in local media.

The curfews for fireworks was a done deal I'm afraid, and I wouldn't be surprised if someone from the paper took the poll in to city hall to convince the town to enforce it. Good luck trying that with the poll they just took down, lol! I'd like to think the paper wasn't paying attention to that poll being on the home page for several months past this July, but I would be ignorant to think that media wouldn't take advantage of their position in town politics.

At any rate, I appreciate everyone who voted. I'm sure it made an impression to the town rag that we value freedom of expression. Ironic, huh?
