I had a magazine approved by the ATF earlier this year, and was told that following 555.224 Table of distances for Display Fireworks that I'd be able to store up to 10,000 lbs(Container is 300 feet from inhabited building). I just purchased a second magazine which will be 500 feet from an inhabited building. Table 555.224 says to use Table 555.218 when you're storing over 10,000 lbs. According to table 555.218, I can only store ~ 200 lbs with an unbarricaded magazine located 500 feet from an inhabited building. Any thoughts on the discrepancy? I know I'll probably never come anywhere close to storing that much product, just wondering about the logic.

how far apart are the two magazines?

They’re on completely separate properties. The new container was just unloaded and sits by itself on an acreage.

Those tables are slightly confusing.. actually very confusing.. pretty sure if theyre on totally separate properties. One will have nothing to do with the other.. and to me 555.224 seems like its geared toward manufacturing properties.. 555.218 is for all explosives. Including bulk salutes .. which is considered high explosive.. i dont get why table 555.219 isn't used here.. the table which is labeled for low explosives.. definitely confusing and have wondered about the clarity of that myself.. as an answer i cant help you.. lol.. as i dont have my own magazine.. but i do try to understand the oramge book as best i can

Disclaimer: I am in no way knowledgeable about every aspect of the Orange Book, we have to use the 218 table for most of our pads as they hold more than 10,000 lbs. The way I read it 555.224 should be what you are using for the second magazine as long as you are not storing bulk salutes and only storing display fireworks. You should have a 10,000 lb max limit as you do with the other magazine. You shouldn't need more storage than that. 10,000lbs explosive comp weight is equivalent to 20,000lbs of gross weight. If you figure 40lbs per case of 3" shells packed 72, then you could store 500 cases. 500 cases fits nicely in a standard 40ft shipping container with a walkway up the center, a 40' High Cube fits around 600.

I would just double check with your ATF rep that you will be using the 224 table for the second magazine.
