Hello, former EOD Tech thinking of FEL licensing

Hello everyone. I'm David. I'm a 100% DAV former EOD Tech from the USAFR. I've been out for a few years now. I'm considering applying for my manufacturers license. I have property that could support limited HE storage. No magazine yet. Thinking about that too. I'm in Northern Mississippi. I have exactly ZERO professional pyrotechnics experience, but I have dabbled privately in the fireworks hobby for some time now. Any comments, direction, support, advice, or discussion is appreciated. Thanks!

I guess I shouldn't assume that everyone is acronym adapted like me, lol. DAV: Disabled American Vet, EOD: Explosive Ordnance Disposal (as in bomb squad), and USAFR: United States Air Force Reserve. lol.

I'm looking forward to the discussion.

Welcome aboard David. Retired Air Force myself, so I understood all the acronyms. I've been living in acronym hell for 36 years now (and counting!).

The owner of this site (Dave) has a really nice DVD package that will talk you through the process of getting your ATF 54. If you want tips on building a magazine you'll find that here too. There's pretty much nothing you can't find (pyro related) right here. Just type in a few search terms and you'll be on your way. Feel free to hit me up with a PM if I can be of any help.

Welcome, a manufacturer license is overkill for most hobbyists. You can build, store, and transport with a user permit 54. Mostly for those who are in commerce. If you intend to sell what you make it shoot it for profit then you would need the manufacturer license.

Welcome to the forum and great to meet you. Thanks for your service bud, former Army myself. I was in muniitions and explosives as well. Did some great training with EOD guys as well. Learned a ton from those guys.

Welcome age2eod. Former USAF--Viet Nam era vet here. Electronics Counter Measuers. There is sooooo much to take into consideration with building as a hobby vs having a manufacturing [type 20] license. The type 54 will clear you for the ability to purchase 1.3g product--but if you are really interested in the manufacturing end I would seek out other pyros in your area. Start networking and see who is near you [reasonable distance] and see if there is someone that would mentor you.
Also, I would suggest you check out the free beginning pyro construction tutorials Ned Gorsky has posted on you tube. He has a site [fireworking.com] that is strictly builders and there are "grand master" pyros on there. That is a paid site [$40.00 a year] but worth every penny.
Also, sift thru the videos on here. There is a lot of information archived and a there are a lot of people on here that will share info with you.
