This is an unlisted video showing some older design mortar caps. If you remember my video from Pyro Master in Cincinnati Ohio, he based his newly designed mortar caps based on the inside diameter of the mortar not the outside diameter. These older ones were designed using the outside diameter. Here is video of the older design and the poor longevity of that material.

Those old caps you have are most like a sort of polypropylene plastic, Something like the disposable tape dispensers they sell now and years ago the old milk containers.. (I was in injection molding and plastics for 20 yrs). It is good but not uv or exposure friendly, the first thing is when there are left in the sun the color fades, then after further exposure (to sun or cold even) breaks down and get brittle, and yes flammable (the melt point is as low as about 275 degrees). Now if someone wanted to make the today I would us ABS Plastic (like the drain pipes and commercial water line connectors are made of) But the down side is there would still be in the ground when you great grandkids pass on (not environmentally friendly)
More than likely, those caps were not SPECIFICALLY made for fireworks to begin with. Probably for pipe manufacturers to keep rodents out in storage and to keep the whistle down when the trucks haul them, they just thought, HEY we can sell these here to!!

So I'm not the only person who's loaded up a bunch of racks on the roof of my car... Thought i had a wheel bearing going out at first...lol, saner heads prevailed after i remembered the 6 ten shot 3" racks on the roof...miss having the straight truck.. Could have gotten more in that trip. Had only two mice in the racks this year, i started flipping all my guns before storing them... Most flip but a few are screwed into, need a few caps for those

Dave,I think those caps are made for food industry factories. You cap off stainless steel pipe that is not being used between production and the sanitation process.
