Any decent ball or canister shell set would be fine if you're not trying to impress.

Putting a 96-shot color pearl shell with a 100-shot Saturn missile battery is always quite fun, and very cheap to do as well. :)

Yes the zippers are awesome, I buy a few boxes each year. Some 200g cakes , shells ( ball or canister ) are always fun to bang off at times.

Lets just put it this way, all fireworks in general are great to light off and have fun with.

and gotta have firecrackers.

I'm not sure why. Me and my buddy went on a run last week and blew $500 for a little party. And despite the fact that they had just been legalized days before, we didn't spent a buck on firecrackers. I just don't see the appeal.

As far as fun little stuff goes, I just picked up one of these desert eagle flare guns, and it's pretty fun. The effect isn't amazing, but the fact that it shoots a flaming ball 20 feet in the air, from a cap gun, is lots of fun.

My Smith & Wesson 500 is pretty fun and it also shoots flames. But it's probably not something I'm going to bring out for the 4th...

My son in law at the range with it...

This depends on what brands you have access to.
