I've just completed my first Roman candle rack. I basically just copied a design that I saw on YouTube. Mine is slightly larger being 9 shots instead of 6.

I've also ordered mortar tubes from PyroBoom that should be arriving early next week. Once they do I will begin building my first mortar rack.

I have candles that range in diameter from 1/2" to 2" so a rack would be useless--however, a piece of rebar or a wooden stake & a couple heavy duty zip ties let me put them wherever I want them at whatever angle I want them & as many in a position as I want them.
You did a very nice job on building the rack. I would focus on making racks for shells though--because you can also put candles in the tubes if you wanted to.

Nice looking build, I agree with PyroJoeNEPA, that a stake and zip ties work great as well. However, I like you built a similar rack when I first started shooting and still manage to use it every year for something.

Thanks for the replies. I'm really enjoying building these racks. I wish I was able to make simple racks that can be staked down, however my shoot site is blacktop in my neighborhood cul-de-sac. For that reason I need free standing racks. I will be building my first mortar rack as soon as the tubes I ordered arrive. It will be a 36 shot fan rack. I'll of course post pics when it's complete. In the meantime, I built another candle rack today. A fan rack for the smaller size candles.

Those are some nice roman candle racks. They should work well for the area you shoot.

I'm not the greatest wood worker, but I've finally finished my mortar rack. As you can see, it's a 36 shot fan rack. I just wanted to give a shout out to PyroBoom who I got the tubes from. Great price and fast shipping.

Used fan cakes are always good for candle racks.

That 36 shot rack is definitely not going to move, nice work!

Thanks guys! Now I just need to figure out how to fuse it. Ideally I like to shoot 12 to 18 shots kinda slow, then have the remaining shots go off fast. This will be the final piece in my display. Any advice is welcome.

Trying to decide weather or not to add spacers or just do dense pack... Is the extra weight and wood worth it....

For consumer racks I wouldn't worry about spacers

I always bulk pack my consumer racks... I was more debating for my 3s... I used spacers top and bottom, only added a little weight and if nothing else it looks nicer with spacers

I didn't use them on my 3s. Some say you should and others say don't worry about it. On my 4s I will

you do know that 3 roman candles taped together fit nice in those tubes. very secure. we sometimes tape one or two used candles to a live one we need to shoot when we are looking for a certain effect.
