So I placed an order with the local pipe show of hdpe pipe to make my own mortars the only problem I am running into is they tell me their 2.5in pipe measures 2.517id most of the sites I have been on say theirs are 2.53id. My question is will my 2.517 id work with the 2.5 shells or is it going to be to tight I don't want to order $300 worth of pipe if I'm going to be screwed when I go to load them but I am saving about $2 per tube so I definitely would like to make my own. Any thoughts?

How much are you paying per tube just out of curiosity?

Will come out to about 3.40 per tube in the 2.5in that's plugged.

Also is it worth going with the 2.5in solid wood plug or are the 1.5in good?

I have 3in tubes with 1.5in plugs and have had zero problems.

The difference between the 2 is a few thousandths shy of being a 64th of an inch. I can't imagine in what situation that would matter...

Dude... You can get the same tubes, pre-made, with wood plugs, all day long for $1.75 each from Dave's sponsors.

Yeah. $1.75 sounds ridiculously cheap. They making it up on shipping?

Pyroboom, Dave's sponsor. You can get 12" HDPE tubes (plugged!) for $1.75 ea. if you buy 200 or more.

HDPE tubes aren't light, so it does cost $$ to ship. However, to get 200 tubes shipped to me here in Tampa would be $90.67 for $350.00 worth of tubes.

So the entire bill for 200 tubes would be $440.67 or $2.20 per tube. Still way cheaper than the $3.40 figure Cwpyro is looking at paying. And since he is a lot closer to Cincinnati where Pyroboom is located, the shipping should be even cheaper!

Okay first of all that's not even the same size I'm making if you actually read. I'm making 2.5in which will shoot a 2.5" shell and will be 16" long so totally different product.

I thought he said 2.5" Tubes? not consumer tubes.
I did price 3 " tubes earlier in the year and the price compared to making them was only about 50 cents cheaper.

Yeah I can get the 3" tube for 1.75 a foot so if I use the 3"x3" solid plug I figured about $4 per tube. I could go with the cheaper 1.5" plug and cut about 75 cents per tube.not sure what to do

Ah. My bad. I misread it. Sorry for trying to be helpful. Won't happen again.
