As far as I know. A career of the sort. Requires a Bachelor's degree in chemical engineering, chemistry or related field. That, is reeeeeally expensive. Is there someway to get a respectable education without spending a lifetime of debt? I Definitely Will Appreciate any know how. I'll be doing my own research as well.

Pyrotechnic engineers are a type of chemical engineer that works with explosives to test, prepare for and design fireworks and/or fire displays. They need a bachelor's degree in a relevant field and may be required to earn a license in some states.

Ah yes I almost forgot Colorado School of Mines is where you want to be. I met a representative from that school once, he suggested I should submit a request to come and speak to the students. He said they would cover my expenses. They really like fireworks at that school.
Here is their program
