im not sure if this is a good idea or not so i figured i would ask. i made this poke out of a dowel (its 1/2" dowel) the line on the front is the 1/4" mark. does anyone see a problem with this?

I tried the same..it didnt work very well at all. The tip will break off or bend..etc..brass is best

thats what i figured and i cant find my brass one anymore guess ill start looking for a new one.

Go to one of the "big box" stores & buy a handle for a file in the tool section, then go over to plumbing & look at the toilet repair parts--the "old style" used a float ball that looked like a small grapefruit--this attached with a threaded BRASS rod about 14" or so long. If you have a grinder, you can put a point on the brass rod & there will be enough brass there to make three "pokes"---or, you could buy one. Me, I like to make stuff.
