One thing I have always wanted to do is assist on a professional show and I would really like to eventualy be the main pyro at a show. However I have never really known how to go about doing this. Do I need a Type 54 permit in order to assist? I was also wondering if knew the best way to get my name out there as prospective assistant.

I see you are in Illinois. Contact ACE, Central States, Melrose, Premier, and any other display companies over here, and see what they say.

No you do not need an ATF 54. All you need is an EPQ provided by the company you would be assisting.
