Sounds like he doesn't even know what type of fireworks he was tossing from his hand. Had to be something more than a firecracker.

Definitely wasnt a "firecracker" Sounds to me like it was a salute with quick fuse attached to it.

My source on this tells me they were unable to find out what the device was that injured him. It is highly suspect the device was an illegal firecracker. But that has not been confirmed. Don't believe he does not know what it was because he is vague in his explanation. He states he was throwing them all night. But then again you get people that light and throw artillery shells and think it is some kind of firecracker. He states he thought it was a different one but it was not. Whatever that means. I'm sure it will eventually come out.

So first of all M80s/M100s etc are firecrackers. Just because they are banned for consumer use doesn't change what they are. That being said I doubt it was one unless he was being stupid and holding it too long so he could throw it at the last second. More likely is that he or someone else poked a hole in a shell (maybe a 1.75" salut) and used a cut length of fast visco as the fuse. 2" of fast visco will burn in an instant. If this was the case, which has happened in the past, he would have been better leaving the shell intact with lift intact. The only other thing I could imagine is holding a strong Roman candle in hand. Those old Star Wars type have quite the inserts.

My guess is that it was a overpowered firecracker , and we all know what they are and what they can do. It was not a 1.75 salute shell because it that went off in his hand he would not have any fingers left and would only have a stump. Plus , these are not something you throw all day like he stated he was doing.

If you really want to try to figure this out i would suggest to reverse engineer it. Where was he at when this injury occurred? I see it has a home in Boca Raton that is now up for sale. It appears he was in Florida when the accident occured.
.

Pierre-Paul declined to be specific about his accident, although he said he had set off fireworks on the holiday for the past six or seven years for children around his South Florida neighborhood.
.
I believe that should be Boca Raton Florida. How far did they drive from Boca Raton to purchase the fireworks? From the looks of what is in the van, it looks like a retail outlet that carries more than one brand of fireworks product. then just go from there. I am sure someone in the fireworks business in Florida would remember a celebrity coming in to purchase or did someone else make the purchase?

and we all know how lots of people just love to hold RCs (even though it clearly says not too and we all know why) so this or a shell is my guess.

Dave, just because he was in FL doesnt mean he couldnt get a hold of 1.3, trust me on that. I can get a zambelli cake tomorrow if I wanted to and they arent even available for purchase as they make their own for internal uses only. Being JPP, he can pick up a phone and have whatever he wants delivered to him, just as someone like myself, who knows the right people, can. I dont do it anymore because I will be able to do so legally here in the next month or two, but that doesnt mean a lot of other people arent doing it. In saying that, you could never convince me that this was an m80/m100 or a RC. This was a quarter stick or a salute minus the lift.

oh man, I could not even finish watching the video.... makes me more then ever only want to use 1.4 and even that could have done this if is was a canister shell or maybe fully loaded egg ball shell.

Reminds me, never ever ever take shortcuts and always follow the safest route. I brace EVERY cake I shoot and I always have proper distance and barriers in use for my shows and I still am paranoid at times.

Fireworks are perfectly safe when used with common sense and following instructions. Fireworks are like anything else....if you get too comfortable with it, it will bite you. Cant tell you how many time I have seen electricians get zapped and woodworkers lose fingers because of this. You have to respect the product your dealing with because if you dont, it will remind you as to why you should have.

Yes it is. A local radio station was talking about this this morning and the two hosts were even talking about their 4th of July party's. Even going as far as saying how they are having a great time drinking beer's and their fireworks display. After all that happened with JPP and that's what they talk about on the air. Like you said common sense gone.

I think the old saying is " Familiarity breeds contempt. " You can never be TOO safe.
