PATTON, Pa. -- The Patton Borough fireworks display is being pushed back one night, not only because of potential weather conditions, but because the person set to shoot off the fireworks is at the center of a federal investigation.
The Patton Slovak Club said it received a call Friday and was told there was a scheduling conflict and it would have to push the show to Sunday.
"Starfire [Corporation], which we have the contract under, called and asked us if we would have a problem with that, which we weren't happy about it, but right now they have a scheduling conflict and they have nobody to cover the event," said Richard Weakland.
6News learned Friday that the scheduling conflict arose after the person responsible for setting off the fireworks was at the center of a federal investigation with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.
Starfire Corporation told 6News the man is not employeed by the company, but was a volunteer who sets off the show.
6News spoke with the man, who is not being named because charges have not been filed, and he says the ATF raided his home Thursday.
He told 6News he's being targeted by those in the Borough looking to stop the area firework's display.
6News reported about a disagreement between the Slovak Club and Borough Council leading up to the 2014 display last year.
It's not clear at this time what the federal agents were looking for, or what they may have found.
Starfire told 6News it is not involved in the investigation.
Organizers said the event is usually attended by hundreds of people from all over Cambria, Blair, Indiana, and Clearfield Counties.
Weakland told 6News he just wants the public to be aware of the change.
"Hopefully there won't be a lot that aren't aware that do show up and waste a trip and that's the last thing that we intended or wanted to happen," Weakland said.
The show will now take place at 10 p.m. Sunday.
