Hi everyone. New here. Can't get enough fireworks. Counting down the days until 7/4/16.

Anyway, does anyone know if Cobra crackers, mamba crackers and similar fireworks are legal in the US? They all seem to have at least one gram of flash but it seems the law is circumvented by having them fountain or emit a colored flame of some sort before exploding. Seems to me this can exclude them from the definition of firecracker as defined by the CPSC.

thanks for your input.

Those firecrackers are no for sale in United States. Occasionally in small fireworks stores you may find firecrackers that are a little better than the average ones found in the big fireworks stores.

They are all junk compared to good ol' American made crackers.

If I may cut in, when talking about Cobra firecrackers and such, are you referring to the Italian imported/made firecrackers? Or is it in-country made brand, similiar to the old M-80s?

They are Chinese made small reports. They have a short preburner. I have seen them shot and they are snappy but the clay plugs make me not a fan. The old M80s were made with either paper or plaster plugs and usually a larger charge. The Italian made Cobras are closer to a 2" aerial report in charge.

Hmm.. alright, don't think i've ever heard of them in that case. As for the Italian Cobras, usually carry around 30g of mixture, 28 or 25g being flash powder and the remaining a fountain. Though, I have also seen proper ground salutes, where they were actually advertised as just that - 2" 3" and even 4" ground salutes, and likewise built as proper aerial ones, but without any lift.

These are the Cobra Crackers--they have either a red or green "pre-burner"--as specified by the color of the paper on the end. They burn like a tiny colored fountain--and then the "surprise" happens. These are a product of China.

I believe the Original Post was in reference to the smaller crackers I posted the pictures of. Those do find their way into the US. The large Cobra cracker you show in the picture is made in Italy isn't it? I haven't seen any of those here in the US [yet] but sure would like to light a few if I ever find any!!!

Either imported or made in Italy, I am not sure if Dave would approve of me posting the name of the company who sells them, however. Though, these range from 25 - 38(?)g flash powder and provide a quite large explosion. I've seen similar firecrackers to the smaller Cobra ones, as well, usually going under the name Color Salute or FP Small.
