Electric Match Accident ?

According to my records there are only 9 ATF fireworks license in the state of Utah.

Well it's great to hear that they will be ok. With that said I wouldn't have been inside hooking up electric matches or even loading up any mortars. I believe it's better to be outside doing all this.

Has anybody out there ever experienced something similar to this? I.E. Sticking electric matches into e-portals and having them go off unintentionally at the shoot site.

Most people that experienced this are no longer with us or do not want to talk about it. I may try to get more information on this accident. My guess is shock or friction on the electric match cause this. I keep seeing more and more electric match accidents. People mistakenly think electrical firing has make this business safer. My research is, we rarely see hand firing accidents but we do see more and more electric match accidents.

I can't understand why anyone with common sense would try to fuse or ematch or load any product.. If they had been outside and had their racks stabilized and doing this properly I doubt the problem would have been so dramatic. Hope everyone is ok though.

You do know that a municipality doesn't need to have a 54 to purchase and use 1.3 product right, they are the ones that issue the permits? I'd like to know where they got the training though to load 1.3 product in doors and transport to the shoot site, probably YouTube.

As far as safety of e-firing vs hand firing, you've got to be kidding me. . . .Good luck with that.

Hand firing and e-firing both have their own dangers. Many of the more tragic accidents in recent years have been as the result of e-fire related shows. I think it's a matter of preference and following the proper safety procedures for the type of firing you're doing, but still, the risk will never be brought to 0% for either. I'm with PGH_Pyro. I just like hand firing.

The news reports have this accident listed as "Static Electricity", I am feeling this is not the cause rather something else occurred.
Under, the Utah Government Records Access and Management Act, §63-2-101 et seq., I submitted an information request of the accident investigation conducted by the Piute County Sheriff office. If and when I receive that report I will post it.
