KC man charged with selling homemade fireworks

Homemade fireworks are very prominent in KC Dave. They've recently took off within the last five years or so and it is getting ridiculous. I'm talking about M-80s, quarter sticks, and such of course. When I used to be around that area for the fourth it wasn't uncommon to hear a loud boom every hour and on the fourth you'll hear hundreds. I had a kid try to sell me a half stick one year, of course I didn't buy but that just shows you how much is going around the area. I don't mind salute products but the majority don't know how to use them properly.

People just like a ground based salute. If people would just make a few for their own personal use it probably would not be a problem. The problems start when people start selling these things in neighborhoods. And as you say kids start selling them. Now with the internet you can find everything you need to make all you want. I do not want to name any particular people or companies , but many people in the legal fireworks got their seed money so to speak from selling illegal fireworks back in the day. One (name withheld) prominent fireworks person told me back in the day he would go to ( fireworks manufacture name withheld) park in the lot and sleep while they made them, they would knock on the window to wake him, then load the car. He said he had a car full of M-80's and had to roll the windows down because the glue smell was making him high. LOL An ATF inspector told me when they do an inspection of someone with a fireworks manufacturing license, they look for a stock of colored tubes. If they see colored tubes they get suspicious. People like to tell me stuff, I don't violate their confidentiality, I can repeat the stories minus the players. It is very temping for some people to make a quick buck by selling these. Many times when they bust these operations they find they are also selling other illegal items like drugs etc.
I know it is a little off topic, if you look at the history of the national pharmacy chain Walgreens, they owe their early success to selling alcohol during the USA prohibition years. There are similar stories in the fireworks business. Its all about finding a way to get the product to the customer.
