The last year I worked Thunder Over Louisville was 2005. It was called Thunder Rocks , the weather was cold and windy. Here is a short unlisted video. You can see me on the bridge with my hoody on. I remember the wind was so strong during the waterfalls off of the bridge the smoke came back across the bridge at us. "Thunder" reportedly is one of the largest fireworks displays in United States for the opening of the Kentucky Derby. It really is a beautiful location to shoot fireworks. They close the second street bridge and have barges on either end of the bridge.

This year is the 25th anniversary the crew said they have 20 percent more fireworks this year than any other year. I am sure they will also do some kinda tribute to Lou

I just realized the video above I posted is still processing it may take a time before it can be viewed. I suspect they will not say anything about Lou. I believe it may be just us other pyro-technicians that will officially honor his memory.
You will have to give us a post display update once you view the show. It looks like the temperature will be 78 degrees with a very slight chance of rain. The audience turn out shout should be great. Have fun

Big Horn thank you! I never heard of Thunder over Louisville until today and I am streaming it on TV and it is so damn awesome! As both a pilot and a fireworks enthusiast I think it must be the coolest thing ever!!!
I will have to go next year for sure.

I have the sound now, the clarity of that live feed is amazingly clear. That's great. I always love how they show the "Control Booth" area and make everyone believe they are actually controlling the fireworks display. It really is an amazing fireworks event. I am willing to bet the classic Zambelli Rainbow will be in the display. If this is the first time you are watching , check out the pause before the encore finale.

Horrible. Watched it live, there is much too emphasis on music now, and the choreography was amateur. The fireworks were great, the music and whoever did was it was less than a pro. Destroyed a good show with it.

Agreed on the music aspect. It was terrible!

Fireworks on the other hand were awesome!

I was trying to do two things at once. It appeared the encore finale did not have a large salute finish?

The coverage was bad with the music in front. Could not hear the booms well. Hope some camcorder footage gets on u tube. Bet it will look better. Fireworks don't need music.

The fireworks would have been awesome without the music distraction. Poorly put together.

That was over the top cool. I didn't care for the music edits, they cut so short and quick. But the pyro was the bomb!

Thought it was great. Music and shells don't match up to good cause there is so many shells still hanging in air. Great fireworks !!! Over 800,000 people in attendance!

You probably have to look at the history of thunder over the years. I know each year has a theme and the music would always follow the theme.
Here is a Wikipedia link, if you scroll down you will see the various theme over the years.

They destroyed what could have been a great pyro show with the very amateur mix of music. They should have stuck to just the fireworks, it was horrible.

The attendance at this event seems to always be weather dependent. According to reports the temperature was beautiful all day. When I was at this display years back I remember there was so much traffic we had to walk back to the hotel and just leave the vehicles on the bridge. The Second Street bridge had to be open at 8 AM Sunday morning. That meant the bridge had to be clean and ready for traffic. I can't remember if that two wire FireOne system was in use then, I remember winding up thousands of feet of wire after the display, I would be curious if the bridge was wireless this year. No matter how the display went you have to appreciate the magnitude of this display. Reportedly it continues to be the largest fireworks display in United States.

To much focus on a small area, needed to show the scale better.

Forget music and minor things. It is the greatest fireworks display in the United States. Wish I could shoot in my shows what they shoot in a single min of there show. Great show! My hats off to all the zambells crew

never been terribly impressed with zambelli's choice of music, personally .

Well, it was horrible. I tried to be gracious in my previous post but the music was awful actually. Very distracting and disjointed. So I just tried to ignore it. They did light up the sky, though!

much better camcorder views of the show on u tube. One from near the bridge. Lots better than the tv coverage.

too much of the time, the music is an after-thought so like everything, a chain is only as strong as the weakest link .

Nearly all the camcorder and camera phone people did better than the tv people. Fireworks inspire and make you feel lucky to be human. Most of the home footage did this, the tv coverage did not. The show was good. The tv coverage was not. Got to get me a camcorder soon.

music still sucked but is mostly in the background on the home footage. Dave does better coverage than the tv guys did this show.
