Hello pyro talk!!!!

Howdy,

i have been a longtime fan and user of pyrotechnics, and plan to start the application process for my ATF type 54 license. I'm always looking for advice and any way I can grow within the pyro community.

I'm looking forward to learning and hopefully I can make some new friends along the way.:cool:

Cajun country....Louisiana. There aren’t to many pyros here.

When you said there are not many pyros in Cajun Country you are correct. As a matter of fact there is a very limited amount of private ATF license holders in the state of Louisiana. I will give everyone a breakdown of ATF license holders by county for the state. I am not sure what your level of pyrotechnic experience is, you should consider approaching the New Orleans office of Pyrotecnico , they are a professional display company, you can possible help work for them during the July4th season. Having been to New Orleans years ago and enjoying Cajun foods I find the entire culture interesting.

Thanks For the tip! My Experience is very limited but I have dabbled on my own with a few Fellow pyros.( None of which hold an ATF license)

FYI If you ever Decide to come down to New Orleans let me know there’s a lot more to the city then what meets the eye.

Hi Chadwick...welcome to the Forum. I'm sure you will meet lots of interesting people here &find it is a very friendly forum. I've been to New Orleans several times--but not for quite a few years. Love the creole cooking--Jambalaya, Gumbo, & the Mufaletta sandwiches they make in the French Quarter. How are the fireworks laws there? Can you purchase/shoot class C products legally?

Yes most Class C Fireworks are premited and may be sold at retail from noon June twenty-fifth through midnight July fifth and noon December fifteenth through midnight January first of each year only.

It is unlawful for any person in the state of Louisiana to possess, sell, or use for any purpose whatsoever any of the following items of commercial fireworks: cherry bombs, tubular salutes, two-inch American-made salutes, firecrackers with casings the external dimensions of which exceed one and one-half inches in length or one-quarter of an inch in diameter, repeating bombs, aerial bombs, torpedoes which exceed three-eighths of an inch in diameter, Roman candles larger than ten ball, and sky rockets larger than six ounces. It is also unlawful for any person to ship into the state of Louisiana any of the above mentioned items for any purpose whatsoever.


Also @displayfireworks1 We have Parishes not counties in Louisiana. Just giving you lilttle bit of LA triva.

So I'm moving from the South to "WNY" Buffalo NY. I Know the laws are very strict in that state so can anyone tell me what my options will be? and how hard will it be to acquire my ATF license once I move?

Your moving from Louisiana to Buffalo New York. When I was a teenager in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania and there was a heavy snow my dad would always say something along the lines of . You think its dad here Buffalo New York got three feet of snow. LOL What I know of Louisiana, it rarely snows. You will also learn new terms like "Lake Effect". LOL

To answer your question the procedure to obtain a ATF fireworks license (permit) is the same in all states because it is a Federal procedure independent of state regulations. In 2003 the Feds took it over from all the states.

First of all - phew - huge change all around - especially the weather. Right now COLD and lots of snow...with more to come!!!
would also highly recommend join a club. will pm you later with some info. That would be the WNYPA.
Also you may want to apprentice under a display company up there - and then maybe AFTER you get established with something like that - then you could pursue your type 54.

can't wait to experience my first snow and cold shoot in a couple weeks with my club. Probably throw some of those mammoth white strobes up to make it even brighter.

ground strobes look super cool if there's a blanket of fresh snow on everything . it enhances the effect.
all i'm hearing/reading/seeing on tv/media is all the snow that has dumped on Western New York . Yikes.
