If you have been watching my videos I predicted when they removed the price from the label they were going to do something to the tape. Something on the tape is different, I will have to test it in the field to see what if any influence this has. I wish U-Haul would have raised the price instead of changing the tape. the old stock tape was made by a USA company called Intertape Polymer Group of Sarasota Florida. I have no idea who makes this new tape. The initial feel of the tape "feels" like it is made by the same company.

I'm mad! I love "Dave's Original Magic tape". Thanks for letting us know. Hopefully it is the same stuff. Even though it stinks, I can handle lesser "quantity" as long as it's the same stuff. I guess time will tell.

I'm with RAZR777, I use it for all kinds of stuff. Love it.

Hey, on another note... if we find that this new tape sucks, maybe we could contact "intertape polymer" or whatever their name is and ask them what's up. I bet they sell the same tape to someone else under a different name just like they sold it to U-haul. Maybe?

Just a thought.

Today I stopped into a uhaul (Warren, Ohio) and bought 3 rolls. Every single roll they had on the shelf was the original Daves tape. So best bet if there is a difference then go buy out the stores befre the get the new stuff in.

Used the new tape this weekend for a show. It's not nearly as tacky as the original....they clearly reduced the amount of glue.

that would make total sense.... less glue means they can wrap it tighter meaning a smaller looking roll.....and all in all they still save pennies on a roll which add up of course. as long as it still sticks and hols up when wet etc ill be happy.

I received word another manufacturer may be making the U-Haul tape and it may more readily absorb moisture but Currently this is only a rumor. My advice is make it to your local U-Haul and buy whatever original tape is left on the rack.
At $3.85 a roll the party will soon be over

Every time I see a Uhaul truck or storage I think of "Dave's Magic Tape". Whats really going on in this country????????????????

I will have to have a talk with the Uhaul Top Dogs. "We prefer to pay a little more for the tape to continue to rip our finger tips off"

So Dave... almost 3 years later I believe the verdict is the U-Haul tape they sell today is at least as good as the old stuff. Yes?

The price of this tape has been the same since at least 2012 when I look back over my videos.
Here is my video from September 2013 price was $3.85 when Uhaul told me they are going back to the original tape.In 2013 you needed $25.00 worth to get free shipping.

Fast forward to 2016 price is still $3.85 per roll and you need $50.00 order to get free shipping. I have not placed a tape order in a long time. The last time I sent an email to my contact at Uhaul he never answered. I am not sure what to make of it all. I am getting reports that while the tape changed , it still does work for fusing. I would recommend not to store it uncovered in an outside building where it would be exposed to moisture and extreme temperature changes. Back in 2008 to 2011 I was getting complaints that the tape was too sticky and hard to work with.
This all seems like a common American business strategy to keep the price the same they reduce the quality or change the amount supplied. Since we are not their primary customer and it still does work for our fusing applications, I doubt I will have any influence over them this time.

I actually rented a U Haul yesterday. I figured I'd pick up a few rolls of tape while I was there. All they had was the cellophane tape. The woman said that's all they carry. Hopefully she meant that's all HER little store carried. Now I'm going have to venture out and hit a few more U Haul places to see if they still sell it at all down here.

In the event I can't find any "magic' tape, is there another brand/type that you would recommend?

You will find it, go a UHaul company store and not just a truck pick place. Of course there is always good old masking tape until you find the Uhaul stuff. When you find the Uhaul tape just buy a nice supply. Or better yet find a friend and split a free shipping $50.00 order and have ti delivered.

Haven't tried that tape yet, gonna have to pick up some this year. It's just been electrical tape until now.

I buy this stuff on amazon by the case. I think I paid 38 bucks for 12 rolls shipped. It's not u haul but it's as good. Very sticky, tears easy and has this waxy like sheen. It's printed ipg for the brand and come on the standard 55 yard rolls. Good stuff. You have to buy the case to get that price I think

SCORE! I was able to track some down this weekend. Picked up two rolls. That should get me through this year. You were right about it being great tape! That stuff would stick ice cubes together!
