Hello! I’ve been an avid pyro since my youth and an aspiring (for lack of better terms) pyrotechnic for several years. I’ve always been interested in how they work and finally got the go-ahead from my wife to start making them for family shows. I feel like I’ve done pretty extensive research on the laws regarding manufacturing 1.3g fireworks for personal use (but there’s probably a lot more to learn). Where I really struggle to find information is the actual manufacture of them. Skylighter has been a little helpful, but I’m looking more to glean information from people I can connect with who have done it themselves. Looking forward to reading what y’all have to say about laws and manufacture! And please have patience as I try to learn lol

The best site for learning about making fireworks is the Fireworking site. It is run by a respected shell maker. I will provide a link. We discuss some fireworks manufacturing here on pyrotalk for those with some experience, however if you are new and need a ground up education on making fireworks, his site may be best.
.
Some advice I can give you is if you are going to make fireworks and can not shoot something you made in the same day, you are going to need some sort of official storage for overnight. Not that I am saying this is or is not you. Don’t confuse making big firecrackers the same as making fireworks.
.
Some of what I promote is, forget making fireworks. Get an ATF license and purchase commercially made pyrotechnics. Then, work on presenting a fireworks display with all these advanced affordable firing systems. Over the years many people have given up on fireworks chemicals once they obtain an ATF license to purchase 1.3 fireworks. Even better now with the newly categorized Articles of Pyrotechnics products the desire to make fireworks will be even less for those that do not want an ATF license but are willing to take a little training.

Choose the path you feel is best for you.

On a side note, I see you live in Sugar City Idaho. I am curious. If you order a coffee there at a local shop and say something like, I don’t like sugar, can I get some Aspartame, or Sweet and Low in my coffee, do you need a note from your doctor you are diabetic or have a glucose metabolic disorder. Or everyone gets sugar no matter what. LOL
