Hi from Spring Branch, TX (near San Antonio). For the 1st time, I lit off some fireworks over the 4th. Just hand lit what I picked up at a nearby stand. Was way more fun than I expected... And my wife & kids loved it.

So, after watching some utubes, I've decided I want to see if I can make this a bit of a hobby. :) Hoping to gain some pointers on where to buy (getting best bang for buck), what to buy, and how to do a "show" for the kids & neighbors...

Thinking seriously about getting an ignite system and maybe getting the certification for the 1.4 stuff.

I guess the important question is... Is a $1,000 - $1,500 budget reasonable? Are there ways to stretch that into a "show"?

Thanks!

Welcome aboard. $1000-1500 can out on a pretty decent show if you buying wholesale. Probably not so much buying retail at a roadside tent. The first year I bought wholesale, I ended up spending about $3000, that got me a pallet stacked just over 6' tall, all assorted cakes and canister shells. Had enough left over that I had product to do half the planned show the following year, and so onto spent about $1700. Each year I end up with leftovers, which is nice as it means I don't spend quite as much every year now I bought a Cobra system, now up to 216 cues across 5 modules. Ignite will do a respectable job, and won't bust your budget the way a professional level system tends to.

I'd definitely recommend buying Dave's AP Certification course, once you have a confirmed purchase of a qualifying firing system. It's good instructional and safety information to have in any case, and will get you the ability to buy from certain wholesale suppliers who recognize his certification program to qualify for buying AP products. There's some really good stuff (and getting better) available in the AP category.
