Anyone have recommendations for specific make/models of DMX lights good for a pyromusical? Looking to replace strobe pots with something scriptable.

Hopefully bright enough that they won't get completely washed out by other effects going off.

I’ve tested a bunch of lights over the years, including the top 8 recommended models on eBay and the one that keeps standing out is the U`King ZQ01069 (though the product number sometimes changes). These are surprisingly solid especially for the price.

- Durability: Aluminum housing, not plastic. Mine have lasted 7+ years with multiple uses each year no issues at all.
- Performance: I’ve used them across a lake at 800 feet, and they worked perfectly. No lag or signal issues.
- Price: You can often get them in 4–8 packs for $47–$56 each shipped, which is wild considering the quality.
- Weather: They’re not waterproof, but I’m in Florida with constant rain. I just toss a 5 cent trash bag over them and I’ve had zero problems.

You can go with pro tour grade brands like Chauvet, but those run $325+ per fixture. Unless you’re touring arenas, I honestly don’t see the point in spending that much. For firework shows and effects lighting these U`Kings punch well above their weight.

Just make sure to test your batch when they arrive I’ve only had one dud out of the 20+ I’ve ordered over the years.

Heads-up

The ones you linked (ZQ01061) are smaller and draw more power, but the “waterproof” claim is likely just marketing … their IP20 rated with no real sealing. I prefer the ZQ01069, bigger, runs cooler, uses less amperage per LED and has a sturdy aluminum housing and the frame stand is wider to put on grass.

I’d recommend grabbing one of each with a free return option (eBay/Amazon), test DMX, beam, etc. if it works well, you can buy a pack. If not, return it. That’s how I did it.
