I suspect this was a fireworks artillery shell. I did a video year back about how long an artillery shell can survive if left to the elements. A canister artillery seems to last a long time. I suspect that is what happened in this video. I may have to search out that video I did.

I've seen this video. There is a second video from a different angle as well which makes me wonder if wasn't staged. If it was a shell, I don't think it was consumer because I see no signs of any stars. Salute maybe. If I had to take a guess, I'm thinking it was staged and maybe something like an old railroad torpedo designed to explode when impacted.

Man, if that was staged, it was risky (and stupid) as hell. Blowing apart a running lawnmower not only presents the risk of shrapnel, but of spraying and igniting gas, and possibly launching the still spinning blade. Guy in the video seems pretty non-plussed about it. I think I'd have unintentionally taught the neighbor kids a few new words if that had been me.

I blew up the engine on an old Ariens snow blower a couple of years back, broke the piston connecting rod while running the unit under heavy load. Made one heck of a boom, but everything remained contained inside the block.

I used to shoot a lot of Golf Courses, and the "Exploding Mower" was a legendary myth I heard from many of them ;)

They'd come up and tell me about the time, Many Years Ago, when one of their guys got blown-off the mower and almost killed ~ hehe

I donno, I guess it has happened that an, unfound shell, shell detonated somewhere,,,, but that's become for all of them a 4" Salute on their course!
