I am about to pull the plug on a new Cobra system. I need a total of 400 shots/wires. Many can/will be used parallel. I can't decide between three (3) 72's with each having four (4) 18S Slats and two (2) 36S slats. Or, a butt load of 18's. I love the 18's because of the Ethernet and low cost of the 18S Slats. Nine (9) 18's or three (3) 72's?

How big is your shoot site? 18s are more flexible i just ordered 3 18m and a 36m i got 3 18 slats and I also got 9 6 slats the 6 slats are definitely cool if you have a big site

I personally think having as many 18's as you can afford is the way to go. Gives you the most flexibility.

I asked this question a couple of years ago and Ed gave me some very sound advise. The 72's certainly have there place, and where they shine is shooting pairs of cakes (as in same cake, same cue, outboard station)

I use the 72m for pair cakes and outboard slices. I use my 18m's and 36m for single effect or single cake work.

In a 3 position show with a 5 position front, i will have 7 18m's.

Station 1 (extreme left) and station 5 (extreme right) will both have 2 18m's.

Station 2 and station 4 both just have 1 18m.

Station 3 (center) has an 18m and a 36m

The 72m fires all of my cakes in outboard locations 80+ ft apart
