Only about 15 brands came out during the brief 4-5 year Class 4 period 1967-71, never to be seen again. How many can you name?

Is this firecrackers or all Consumer Fireworks?

Maybe a couple... San-tee, gorilla, giant panda... Wish I had some in the collection... See them on Facebook from time to time.

halk

Yes firecrackers only. Sorry Kenny none of those are correct. Giant Panda has been around a long time and San-Tee made it into Class 5. Hint: at least four of the 15 are known from boxes only.

Well before my time, mostly a guess... One of these days I'll get more into it. Only have about 50 packs... Most not that old.

Maybe it's like a game show. We have until next week for the answer

One correct so far. Golden Dragon, but of course only the one by Sunshine Firecrackers and Fireworks in Taiwan. Hint: Two other brands by this company are on the group of 15. Witch may be right....will research it.

Thanks for mentioning Witch. All I have is a front view of the box, so can't tell if Class 4 or not. Wish I had one! It does look like a R&S brand by Hugh Reid in Bozeman. Looks likely to be Taiwanese.

Welcome! I want to say there was a Cub or Grizzly Cub brand from R&S as well.

halk

Yes both Class 3.

halk

No markings on Witch. Perhaps there was an ICC Cautions slip under cello? Likely used it because of the open flap ends.

Score one for Wingman with Golden Dragon by Sunshine F&F......14 to go.

How about Black fury by president brand?

halk
01-09-2019, 08:54 PM
No, but if we ever had a thread on "exists in Class 5 (1971-1977) only" it would be on my list.
Good try though, you got one word correct

Atl4pyro

Colt 44 maybe? Only labels I’ve ever seen say ICC and cautions

You nailed one Atl! I've never seen Colt 44 in C3 or C5 either.

Down to 12 now.

OK hint time: There are twice as many "B's" as "A's"

halk
01-15-2019, 10:58 PM
Black Mask and Black Fury were submitted, but both are Class 5. Got the first word correct however.

halk
01-17-2019, 06:11 PM
A buddy submitted Batman and it is correct unless someone can show a Class 3 or Class 5.
Anyone have a pack or label from Bat Brand? Forgot that one and very similar and would be number 16 if legitimate.
Still three B's to go including two Blacks.

A run at those 3 remaining Bs:

- The Big 12
- Black widow (not counting “collectors” class 7 reprints from NFA)

Good going Alt, you forgot the Spider on the Black Widow (sort of hard to see), but I will count it.
You nailed Big 12, so that leaves a single B. Bat was also added to the overall list after owner gave good evidence it was a very short-lived C4 brand.

Down to nine brands now, five of which I could call common, three fairly well known, and one scarce.

Black Magic?

halk

Very good! Down to six now.
one A, one B, one M, two S's, one V and one W. Hint: since the W only says "firecrackers' the brand is based on maker's name.

halk

Sorry. No B's remain.

You nailed M80. Note not the same as M-80x. Good going. Two left. The S is an easy one, but the W is tough.

halk
06-25-2019, 08:50 AM
type.... not same as M-80's

halk
06-26-2019, 08:57 PM
Final hint: Both the S and the W were made in Taiwan.

Stumped. Google can’t bail me out.

Searching for more President brands but maybe that’s the wrong rabbit hole...

Hint: Look up during daylight hours.

Still looking for a scan of the back of an unopened Witch box. Almost positive it is one of the 'pure' (known in only a single age class) C4 brands, but want to make sure. So please contact any collectors who might have one and relay this request.4310

OK time to close the quiz. The two remaining were Sunshine and Wan Kan, named after the Taipei maker. This is the hardest to find (pic). So if I didn't miss any, a complete set of 'pure' (found in no other Class) Class 4 firecrackers would total 17 brands or about four brands per year for the 1968-1971 period.
This has been fun and we should do it for Classes 2 and 3 some day.4454
