Guys,

In a 3 position show, would there be disadvantages in running dual 72m's vs quad 36m's?

I could save some money by doing the 72m's, but I don't know if there are any unforeseen disadvantages in the 72's vs the 36's

To be clear, I would be using each 72 on the outboard channels shooting the same stuff at the same time. My 18m's will be dedicated to shoot center channel stuff, and all other oddball effects.

It boils down to lower cost per cue vs. a small loss in flexibility. If you have 18ms already the flexibility issue really does not play into it much IMO.

However if you are doing common effects on both your left and right platform for best cost I would suggest considering using a 72m and get slats to work with it. You could also run the slats to the center platform also as you wire across to get from the left to the right one. You would likely need to have a connector in the middle anyway because the longest HD slat cable cobra sells is 25m. You might as well make that "connector" a slat. I have a 72m with onboard on my left platform, two 25m cables to two 36 mini parallel slats in the center, and two 25m cables to two 36 mini parallel slats to the right platform. So basically all of that with one 72m to fire 3 locations.

I have a pdf of my layout if you are interested.

Thank you Ed, slats are all foreign to me but after reading your post it makes sense. A single 72m with long cables would do exactly what I was wanting to do with mine. I have 7 18m's so I could do 2 modules on both sides to compliment the slats and 3 in the middle......something along those lines anyway. Ill bet I can make that work.

I would love to see a PDF of your show if you are willing to share!

Your shows are simply amazing, and a show similar to yours on a smaller scale is what I have in mind. How wide is the spacing between your stations?

The spacing is the length of the slat cable about 25m (84ft). Here is a link to a pdf of the image below:

I would suggest using LED moving heads if your not running high power, High End Systems or Martin Lighting. Best in lighting.
