I'm buying a box of 1.3 1.75" salutes. Is it OK to shoot these from HDPE DR-11 tubes?

Check out Dave's video "366 salutes" you will see what they are like in quantity!!! They were all shot from a hodge podge of racks that everyone brought--HDPE, Fiberglass & Cardboard. All worked well!

I wouldn't think those thin fiberglass tubes and especially the cardboard would work to good. You guys are the pros so it must work!

The only difference between a 1.75" salute & any other 1.75" shell is what it does when it is up in the air. The lift charge shooting it out of the tube is the same! You can use the cardboard tubes over several times as is--just keep an eye on them for structural integrity to be sure they don't start to unravel. Some people mount them in racks--if you do that you should coat the tube for longer life. You can dip them in shellac or varnish to coat them inside & out & let them dry out thoroughly.
The preferred method is to soak them in a calcium chloride bath, let them semi-dry & then coat them with a sodium silicate [aka "waterglass"] solution. It makes them rock hard. I think there is a thread somewhere on the site that discusses that.
Now, that being said, if you were to have a flowerpot in an uncoated cardboard tube, I'm sure it would be destroyed. I think the same for a treated one, but really dont know. Fiberglass is also questionable--HDPE would probably survive.
Anyone have any first hand knowledge on this one? It is a good point to discuss.
Dave, that would be a good video--testing the different tubes with an upside down 1.75" shell--regular peony & a salute compared in all three types of tube.

I never shot any 1.3 products, so is a 1.75 salute louder than a thunder king? I'm guessing the salutes are louder because of the size.

Yes,,because the size. But then again.. most thunderkings I used were I believe only 1"tubes in them

I'm going to Lynch's saturday to pick them up. I will do a test between the 1.75 salute and a 25 shot Thunderking and see which is louder

You will love them! they both serve a purpose in a show. a thunderking only finale is overrated.IMO. unless you have a few hundred lol

I have a 30 shot and a 50 shot rack. I was going to do each 1/2 with Excaliburs and 1/2 with the 1.75 for part of the finale

That will be nice. I would suggest fusing it so the salutes go off last.

the yellow fiberglass tubes dont hold up to a lidu 1.75 salute shell, imma have to look around the wharehouse for one. i'll get a pic up of the destruction.

Is that just one tube or were there multiples. Is fiberglass not fiberglass not fiberglass??

I think I'll use the HDPE tubes. I'm going to try PyroJoe idea of using shellac on cardboard tubes. Fiberglass tubes i don't think i would trust.

I am very hesitant to use Fiberglass... Just me though..I always go with HDPE

I was nervous last year when i put some Excals in a 10 shot rack. I just worry about blowing out the tube and shards of fiberglass flying everyplace

HDPE is the way to go gonna pick up another hundred tubes this winter....i have a ton of tubes the kits come with i am going to start tossing.....not the excal tubes the other crap....
