Why do they cram all the booths so close to each other? You would think they have learned by now.

I also saw on the news that the fire marshall or safety inspector said everything was good to go. It makes one think, what are their safety rules compared to ours.

I found these pictures of what the market may have looked like prior to the most recent accident. Here is also a comment post 2005 accident.
.
After the 2005 blast, officials separated stalls at the market in an effort to prevent fires from spreading. Local government officials last week described it as “the safest market in Latin America.” In a statement, Mexican Pyrotechnics Institute Director Juan Ignacio Rodarte Cordero said the market had “perfectly designed stalls with enough space so that there is no chain reaction fire in case of a spark.”
Here is the market in 2015

I saw a video of the market from 2015---and one of the stands had a 6" yellow fiberglass mortar tube there---so there was more than the "class C" products available to the general public for sale there. And their safety standards are very lax to those here in the USA. Such a tragedy!! :-(

One of my anonymous sources told me they are investigating this event was set off because the vendors refused to pay protection money. We will soon know if that report is valid.
