Having some friends at the local welding school has really paid off! Check out this awesome mortar they made me.

I could use some help figuring out what to fire. So far I've been using a mix of dry materials for decent results. I would like to up my game with some gasoline (dragon's breath) style effects but I haven't been able to find a good gunpowder locally to start working with that effect. Here are a few videos of what I've done so far (complete with friend's commentary):

Tips and feedback appreciated :)

Good luck with that. It looks too short and stout for anything I am familiar with.

What would be an ideal height?

There is another thread here discussing all the aspects of the "Dragons Breath" or "Ghost Mines" as they are called. Pretty much any questions you might have are addressed in there.
As far a black powder, you should be able to purchase a one pound can at any sporting goods store that deals with black powder guns. The "egg" used for ignition usually has a pinch of titanium added to guarantee fire, but it can be done without it.

I'd like to suggest attending PGI or another club function to get further information from here. It isn't like lighting a 200 gram cake.

By the way I am not a newbie to fuel mines. I have quite a few and use them regularly. Things can go badly in a hurry.
