A person is missing and four others have been injured after a huge explosion at a firework factory - while the public has been warned to stay indoors with their windows closed.

The fire is believed to have happened at the SP Fireworks factory on the Baswich Industrial Estate in Stafford, West Midlands at about 5pm this evening.

Staffordshire Police is due to search the scene tomorrow morning once the fire has been put out and currently is working to support the family of the missing person

Supt Jane Hewett from Staffordshire Police said 'At this stage police and fire are working to establish the cause of the explosion, sadly we currently believe one person remains unaccounted for and police are working to support their family.

'We are currently arranging for a search of the scene tomorrow morning once the fire has been extinguished and the scene made safe.

'The cause of the explosion remains unclear at this point. Police are working to locate everyone who had been in the premises this afternoon and urge anyone with any information about those visiting SP Fireworks today to call Staffordshire Police on 101.'

West Midlands Ambulance Service has treated four patients so far, including two people who have been taken to the major trauma centre at University Hospital North Staffordshire

In follow up, it looks like the man arrested has been released and is now a witness only. I am curious what the cause of this accident was. The last similar accident in Canada was traced to electric match placed in the product. From the report this location was stocked to capacity for upcoming Bonfire Night.

I would be curious what was stored in the associated business next to the fireworks storage, if it is as it appears
