I like the way you used a smaller hemi half for a lift cup. I am going to "borrow" that idea if you don't mind! :D Very nice picture tutorial also. How many layers of pasting did you use? Great job--as always!!!

You can either use plastic bags filled with black powder or you can just use smaller hemispheres like what he did the Italian styled way for the lift cup of shells.

I do use plastic bags with the lift powder--but form a lift cup from scratch with heavy cardboard & kraft paper. The hemi is a much neater & consistent method which I will try on my next batch of shells. Here are a dozen 4" shells I made last week after drying & before adding the lift cups.

I pasted actual 12 layers of 70# kraft paper. Such a Hemi as liftcup is also safer. Should still be embers in the mortar that have been overlooked, it does not burn right through to the lift charge. :)
