I found this method of displaying fireworks rather interesting. This is video from Japan. It appears as if the participants must hold the fireworks in their hands. I saw too many fountains blow part to risk this, but it is cool to watch and further expand our knowledge of pyrotechnics around the world.

These fountains are called "Tezutsu (Hanabi)" which translates to "hand-held fireworks".
I remember seeing these for the first time in the opening or closing ceremony for the Olympic Games in Nagano in 1998. During summer there are many Tezutsu festivals.

It's a piece of bamboo, reinforced with string.

A temporary platform is built on the river bed of the Miyagawa River. Fireworks are set off bamboo cylinders handheld by “shooters”, who get showers of sparks from the fireworks, creating extremely exciting scenes
