This is what happened last night in the village of Elche, Spain (close to Alicante).

Last night Elche celebrated its yearly festival. Which means almost 100,000 rockets were set off. Ten minutes before the final bouquet a spark flies into a bunch of rockets that were still covered with a sheet or something. Hence the rockets not flying very high and a chain reaction because fire couldn't escape from underneath the sheet. Several people were injured severely and almost 100 lightly.

From the video in this article (wait for the commercial to pass) at 00:08 it looks like a titanium cloud close to the church tower triggered the event.

I have too little time right now to translate the Spanish text, but I guess you'll figure that out with some online translator.

Amazing accident. That's what happened when the uncovered the "finale" early, and a little spark ignites all the reaction... AMAZING! As Spaniard, this is hard to see.

Here you can see how it looks when it goes OK:

Even for me it hurt to see it, eventhough I'm not Spanish. But I feel Spanish sometime :)
The final palmera is beautiful and I know it's a special moment.

Thanks for including a video of what it should have looked like.
