Because it's been a while any new videos appeared in the Maltese section, I thought you might appreciate an update. In Malta the festa season is running in high gear right now.

The videos below kept me up late last night. Just like in last years' videos Japanese influences can be noticed, which I don't mind at all.

And last but definitely not least:
Next to aerial fireworks each Festa also has ground fireworks with huge Catherine wheels (called Irdieden). To me some of them are mechanical wonders.

I guess you had a great time then in Zurrieq.
To my knowledge they are the only ones who have "japanese style" shells.
I'm not referring to the "ordinary" ball shells, but ball shells with effects typical for Japan.
Do you know of any other villages/factories in Malta that make these "japanese shells"?

The displays in Lija I saw in 2005 and 2009. They are always great. I remember the rooftop we were standing on was vibrating (and we were on the other side of the hill at a distance of several hundred meters).

In a few days Mosta (amongst others) and next week for the Ascention of Our Lady it'll be up to you in Qrendi and your neighbours in Mqabba (and many, many others). Been there in 2005 and 2009 as well. Wishing you a great festa!

Thanks for the info, Laquil.

Now that you mention it, I remember the accident in Qrendi earlier this year. A very tragic event. I remember I was shocked when I heard the news. It seems to me accidents like these are getting closer and closer.

As I wrote before, I visited Malta in 2005 and 2009. In those years I also visited the factories of Lija, Mosta, Mqabba and Qrendi. It was always a warm welcome and because of our shared interest in fireworks it seemed like we had already been friends for years (although we just met). I still have warm heartfelt memories of the people I met back then and with some of them I still maintain contact through Facebook.

Although I live far away and don't know the people really well, it still hurts when I read of accidents like that. I can't imagine what it must feel like for you and can only express my deepest sympathy :(
